About the Band

grassnotes - Becka-resized-11-08Grass Notes is a bluegrass band from the North Texas area. Though the band is new, most of the members have bluegrass roots that go back at least 20 years and include multiple bluegrass band experiences.

Kristi McElheney on guitar, sings most of the lead vocals.  She has been performing in a bluegrass band since she was 12. Her clear voice and sparkling personality will steal your heart.

Larry Shoemaker, on banjo and guitar, sings harmony and some lead. He played in several bands, including a stint in a New England bluegrass band. He’s the proud dad of Kristi, and husband of Jerry.

Walter McElheney is Kristi’s husband who plays mandolin and sings harmony & some lead. Walter is the relative newcomer to the group, but he will delight you with his performances.

John Luckie is a real pillar of the band.  He is an outstanding fiddler, who is as comfortable with contemporary tunes as he is with traditional fiddling.

Jerry Shoemaker plays the big bass fiddle.  She is Kristi’s mom test2and works hard to keep the band in order.  You can’t help but watch her gettin’ down when she is playing that bass. You will love watching and hearing her on stage.

Rebecka McElheney is the newest member of the band.  She is the daughter of Kristi and Walter. She certainly has inherited her mother’s ability to sing.  We are proud to present Becka.

Grass Notes prides itself in its tight three-part harmonies and unique arrangements.  They like to keep it traditional with a unique contemporary flair.  They are easy to listen to and fun to watch.  From Kristi’s strong, beautiful voice, Larry’s high harmonies, John’s great fiddlin’, Walter’s harmonies & leads to Jerry’s dancin’ with her bass and great sense of timing, you’ll find them entertaining and enjoyable.
