Hey Everyone,

We’re having another BARN THANG at our barn in Collinsville, TX, SATURDAY Nov. 14, 2009, at 7:00 PM till 11:00. As usual, I am looking forward to it. We have a returning guest band with new members, and I am expecting a full evening of entertainment and fun.

We will have scheduled bands until about 9:00 or so, and then it is bluegrass jammin’ till 11:00. Rain or Shine. Remember, the Barn is heated, so cool temperatures are not an issue. Bring your instruments and jam, or just bring your lawn chairs and sit and listen.

Our guest band for Nov will be the BLUEGRASS REUNION. This group was here a couple of years ago, and is headed up by our good friend, Ray Boyer, of Springtown, mandolinist extraordinaire, and vocalist. If you can watch Ray pick and sing, and not get happy, something is wrong with you. Elbe Freeman, from Perrin, is the consummate traditional lead singer. His great voice and strong guitar provide a solid platform for the band performances. Andy Deskins, Springtown, is a well known and very talented banjo player and veteran of several good bluegrass groups. Joe Vaughn joined Bluegrass Reunion about a year ago and his Dobro playing has added a new dimension to the band. He is a retired professor and teacher from Tarrant County Junior College, and lives in Saginaw. He was a steel guitar player in country bands before he took up the Dobro. Beverly Polly is the newest addition to the Band. She plays stand up bass, sings harmony, and some lead and is a real asset to the group. She is a veteran of several different bluegrass groups. Come out and support this band. They put on a great show.

We had a great crowd last May. Nickelville Road put on an amazing show, and when Bobby Brite got loose telling stories, he had the crowd falling out of their chairs. We had many compliments on the band. I do believe a great time was had by all.

As usual, the Grass Notes Band will be the host band for the evening. The band consists of: Kristi McElheney on guitar and lead vocals; Larry Shoemaker on banjo, guitar, lead and harmony vocals; Walter McElheney on mandolin, lead and harmony vocals; John Luckie on fiddle, and Jerry Shoemaker on the bass. We will also feature our newest member Rebecka McElheney singing again this time. We may be throwing in a few surprises, but who can tell.

Admission is free. We will accept donations for the visiting band’s expenses.

Some folks have asked about bringing snacks. We invite you to bring snacks or finger foods if you desire. As usual, we will have coffee and tea.

Please bring your folding or lawn chairs. We will probably have to keep the big door closed, so if possible, refrain from bringing the large reclining type chairs. Please remember no smoking in the building, and no alcohol.

There are no facilities for small children, sorry.

Directions:

We are east of Gainesville – From Gainesville, east on 82 to 377, South to Collinsville – -

From the South – North on Hwy 377 to Collinsville.

Then – East on 902 about 3 miles east, South on Graham Grove Road about 1/4 mile, then East on Bobby Sam Court. To the end of the Cul-de-Sac - 266 Bobby Sam – Barn is in back.

Lost? – 903 429 6056.

If you wish to be removed from this list, please let me know.

Pouring rain, cold weather, and blustry winds could not dampen the good time at the Barn Thang, Feb 16. We had a good turnout, lots of coffee and snacks, and lots of music. The Hogwallow Boys put on a fine show, and we got to meet a group called the Grubb Family, who has a slew of talented children playing music with mom and dad.

There was an enthusiastic jam session was on stage and several people stayed around and listened to the jamming. There were jammers from Abilene, Weatherford, Keller, as well as more local folks. I think a good time was had by all.

If you didn’t get to make it, we missed you.
